KNOW MORE
Facts About Litter

502.5 Million
Pieces of litter on PA roadways

A single cigarette butt pollutes 250 gallons of water

Motorists and pedestrians are the top sources of both large and small litter

186.2 Million
Cigarettes are on our highways

PennDOT spends approximately $1 million annually addressing litter on Allegheny County highways

Who’s responsible for the roads?

The City of Pittsburgh: City streets, Allegheny County: County routes, PennDOT: State highways and roads

But responsibility doesn’t stop at the government. Motorists, pedestrians, businesses, and residents all contribute to litter — and we all have a role in preventing it.
