Hillary Steffes was raised in Pittsburgh and since childhood has found intrigue, solace, entertainment and adventure in this city’s vast network of combination wilderness/post-industrial corridors and lots. She has volunteered many hours cleaning up her favorite hang out spots, her block, or the block over, and also the next block... She feels empowered having joined forces with Allegheny CleanWays to help restore the commons in a more efficient manner- "it’s really inspiring to witness the impact we can have!!"
Outside of DumpBusting with CleanWays she has rescued many stray pieces of furniture, trinkets, and materials. Just two seasons ago, she achieved her most rewarding level of scavenging status when she designed and built her friend’s house out of almost entirely salvaged material.
