Illegal Dumpsite Surveys

In June of 2009, Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful released reports for the City of Pittsburgh from their Illegal Dumpsite Survey Program. The report listed 279 dumpsites with a total estimated tonnage of 676 tons within the city. A map indicating the locations of those 279 dump sites and the progress in eliminating them is shown below. Click on the map to see a larger version.

Cleaning up the dump sites is an endeavor that requires the cooperation of many individuals and organizations. Some of the key players thus far have been: Allegheny CleanWays DumpBusters, Junior DumpBusters, and individual volunteers, Stash the Trash, Operation Better Block and their Green Team, Mt. Washington CDC, California-Kirbride Citizen Group, Citizens Against Litter, Bruce Kraus' office, The Student Conservation Association, Pittsburgh Cares, Friends of the Riverfront, Steel Valley Trails, and Pretty Up Beechview.

If you are interested in volunteering to help rid our city of these eyesores and health hazards, sign up on our events page or contact us to see how you can organize a cleanup in your community.
